There’s a Wayne’s Coffee near my apartment that has a row of seats along the street window. All day every day when I go by, there’s a line of people working on their laptops. If you didn’t know it was a coffee shop, you might think it was an office. There’s typically one person per table, with a cup of coffee, a phone, maybe a newspaper and of course, a laptop positioned just so. (If there is more than one person at a table, there is a meeting going on and the laptops are still being used.) Everyone is plugged in and working and as you look further in, you can see the glow of little Apples all around the cafe. Because those laptops are almost always Macs. As someone who has only used Mac in her career and life, that makes me happy. But you have to wonder if it is only the Mac users who venture out of the office to work elsewhere…
The cafe as office
