chorizo at azafran

Artichokes and chorizo at Azafrán.

I’m a big fan of appetizer meals – eating little samples of all kinds of things is my idea of perfection. Thus I tend to be happy with tapas, especially since they remind me of Spain, a country I love to visit. And I  guess if I am to be completely honest, I also love all the cool little dishes that tapas tend to be served in.

The other night, I went out for tapas with my friend MJ to  Azafrán Restaurante Taller De Cocina in Hornstull. Azafrán takes its design inspiration from Madrid and even has a not too bad looking Madrid mural on the wall. We tried chorizo, mussels cooked with white wine and mushrooms, Spanish risotto with blackfish, artichokes with garlic, onions and manchego and shrimp with a saffron dip. It was all pretty good, but not quite great. I did think the chorizo was the best, while MJ liked the mussels.

As I am writing, I am listening to some classic Spanish guitar music from Madrid for inspiration. I can almost feel the warm sun on my face if I close my eyes and concentrate hard enough. But then I look out the window at the chilly gray day and I’m back in Stockholm again. Check out Azafran here.

We just discovered a halfway-decent Spanish place in our city! It’s really nothing amazing, but it’s the only place here I am looking forward to visiting again, so that counts for a lot!

Mmmm… Tapas. I’m also a fan of chinese restaurants, where you can order a lot of small dishes to share. Great for a big group of people!

Yes Christian! And I also like Ethiopian, where everyone orders but all the dishes come together on one big platter and you sample everything!
