Zumba in Stockholm

March 17, 2011

in Cultural differences,Stockholm

Yesterday, I took my first Zumba class.  Zumba is a Latin inspired dance exercise class and is known as the way to party yourself into shape. With that kind of promise, it’s hard to resist trying it, right? If it’s a party and I can get in shape, I say it’s a good thing. And it is a lot of fun. The music is great and the dance moves start easy and then get more complicated.

Zumba also reminded me of something I’ve always thought: we ladies of the Northern Hemisphere can’t shake it like those ladies of the Southern Hemisphere, in particular South America. It’s just not in our makeup to shake our hips and bums like Shakira can. But it sure was entertaining to try anyway. And I liked hearing class instructions in Swedish and song lyrics in Spanish. It made for a good translation workout for my brain, too.

I missed my Zumba class yesterday. 🙁

When I had my first Zumba class I had the same thought: My body is not made for these kinds of moves.
I have to say that my Zumba instructor is from Brazil and she looks like Shakira when she is shaking her body!

Enjoy Zumba!
