Stranded

in Stockholm,Stockholm weather

I’m so glad that I got up at 4.30 am for our flight that was supposed to leave at 6.50 but now it’s after 10 and we are still in Stockholm. Ugh.

The day started crazy. There were no taxis available, so we had to drag our suitcases through the snow to Slussen. Then we just missed the Arlanda Express by one minute and the next train was cancelled. Then the train we finally got on did not go full speed, but rather poked along. We just made it in time to board before the flight closed.

That should have been enough. But it wasn’t. We were told we would be delayed for two hours, but then the plane got de-iced and we were going to take off. But then we were delayed again. This time we were told that Charles de Gaulle airport was closed until 1. Over the intercom, the French pilot apologized: “Here in Stockholm, you know how to deal with the snow. In southern Europe, it is not so easy for us.”

Then we waited some more before finally getting to leave the plane. Now we are sitting in Arlanda airport waiting for the next announcement about our flight. I am thinking that we will be doing our Christmas shopping at the airport.

So frustrating!

I’m starting to worry about my mom and stepfather who are supposed to arrive tomorrow!

Antropologa,
It is frustrating, but I have to admit we were expecting it. As for your family, if they have a direct flight they should be fine. Arlanda is in good shape. But if they are connecting somewhere else in Europe, there are lots of problems!

Hey, do the Swedish way, take a ‘Stor stark’ and a Jägermeister. It will lighten things up 🙂

Second option is to force the airline to rebook you to direct flight SAS ARN-Chicago

Thanks for the tips Roger! it will be interesting to see just how long this journey takes. I hope your trip goes more smoothly.
