We’ve been exploring SoFo lately. In Stockholm, it’s short for south of Folkungagatan and the term signifies an area located south of the street Folkungagatan on the island of Södermalm. The name is also a play on the Soho of both London and New York. It’s an area of cafes, cool fashions, coffee shops, bars and art galleries. It’s often called the bohemian heart of Stockholm. Whatever you may call it, it’s fun to look around.
The other night, we went on a mini bar crawl iniated by my friend Zanne. First stop was Snotty Sounds Bar. In spite of the name, this is a neighborhoody bar, the kind of place where you can just stop in for a drink and hang out for a while with friends and chat. The music was interesting without overpowering the conversation. And the walls are decorated with music posters and memorabilia, giving a groovy kind of atmosphere. Snotty is at Skånegatan 90.
The next stop was Bar Nada. This is another hang out kind of bar, but it’s a bit more happening and has a livelier vibe. In the back room, it feels like you’re hanging out in a super casual living room with gold ceilings. A DJ was playing excellent music and tapas are served here too. Bar Nada is at Åsögatan 140.
And our final stop for the night was Elefantpojken. It had a much more low-key vibe than the other bars, but maybe we were just tired. In keeping with our theme though, I would call it another great hang out bar. As for food, Elefantpojken specializes in Asian fusion. It’s at Ringvägen 151.
