Stockholm fashion

in Stockholm,Travels

OK fashion friends: a big trend here in Stockholm lately is for the young and trendy to wear dark tights with open toe sandals. The sandals are often the big, chunky wedge heels or gladiator-style ones. And the look is worn with the ubiquitous skinny jeans, really short skirts or short shorts.

Showing my age, this look was always a fashion don’t back in my younger days when wearing socks with Birkenstocks labelled you as either frumpy, granola or both. But now I am looking at the new version of socks and sandals and thinking it doesn’t look so bad. My question: is this one of those Stockholm-centered trends that’s only in fashion because it’s too darn cold to wear sandals without stockings here or is this look happening elsewhere? Just curious.

I was in Stockholm last weekend and there were lots of things the young girls were wearing that I started thinking maybe I could pull off…but really I shouldn’t even try.

I know just what you mean Antropologa! I love the look of the short shorts with tights, but think it is best done on those who are under the age of 25!

Sandals with stockings sounds far too close to sandals with socks for my liking. All a bit to “German backpacker in Australia”, me thinks.

James,
Ha, that’s German backpackers anywhere and exactly what we don’t want to see! (Sorry German friends.) But I do have to say that the cute young things here look good with their stylish sandals. I will have to get a photo.

I think this could be an international fashion problemo! I’m seeing girls in wool coats, scarves and hats and yes, opened toe summer sandals walking around downtown Dublin. It’s just good that they’re wearing underwear under the short skirts!

It’s too darn cold. Don’t wear dark stockings with sandals!

MB,
Don’t worry, I won’t be wearing this look. But what did fascinate me is that I was thinking it looked good on others! And that just goes against my basic fashion beliefs…
