Staying at the Airbnb

in Life as an expat,Stockholm,Sweden

While we were in between places, Robert and I decided to play tourist in our own town and checked into an Airbnb apartment here in Stockholm.  Airbnb is an online marketplace for people to list and rent vacation rentals in locations around the world – the site offers listings in 25,657 cities and 192 countries. You can opt to stay for a night, a week or a month. Want to rent an old stone house in Tuscany? A room in the Hollywood Hills? An apartment in Paris? The options on the site run from plush penthouse apartments to beach houses to cabins in the woods to tree houses. Most of the lodgings are private homes and thus you get to live like the locals. Plus, your apartment host will give tips on where to go and what to see. It’s a cool set up.

After looking at photos of dozens of places, we selected a stylish apartment in central Stockholm and from the initial reservation inquiry, found that Airbnb and our host were helpful in every way. My host Albert exchanged more than a dozen emails with me to make sure that we had everything we needed and were happy with our lodging. And when we needed to check out early to leave for the funeral, it was not a problem with Airbnb or my host.

All in all, I have to rate my first experience with Airbnb as two thumbs up!
