Slow snow driving

in Cincinnati: my hometown

snow at P&G

Looking through my windshield at the Procter & Gamble headquarters.

Yesterday morning, I was happy about the return of snow to Cincinnati. Last night, the thrill was gone and I was reminded of what is not fun about snow in this town: slow, inexperienced winter drivers. Late yesterday afternoon, we get about ONE inch or 2.5 centimeters of snow.

Just at that time, I needed to pick up Robert at the airport. Traffic on west 275 and south 71 and 75 was at a standstill. A drive that should have taken me 45 minutes instead took 3 hours and 15 minutes. While I never saw an accident or emergency vehicle, apparently there were a few accidents and icy spots. I listened to NPR programs, my Dad’s satellite radio and enjoyed chatting on the hands-free wireless phone. For a while. Then I got cranky. I was hungry. And I wanted out.

I never even made it to the airport. Robert got a taxi and started making his way toward me. We met up at an exit in Villa Hills. The drive northbound was traffic free. What a relief.
