in Living in Europe,Stockholm, what to see in Stockholm

torsten

The Torsten dates from 1895 and is parked on Skeppsholmen facing the Moderna Museum. I love the little garden gnome sitting on deck.

I’ve always thought that I would like to live on a boat. I grew up on boats, but mostly of the fishing and rowboat variety, so I can’t say that I’m a sailor or even very boat knowledgeable. Instead I’m probably more of a romantic that loves the idea of living on a boat.

Perhaps because of this fantasy, I love Skeppsholmen, one of the islands that make up the center of Stockholm. On the east side of this island there’s a community of boats that people live on. The boats all have had previous lives in the military or in shipping and their history is proudly described on plaques next to them. I never get tired of walking along the jetty next to the boats and then taking the ferry across to Djurgården just to get one more boat fix.

How cool! I have a boat named after me! Well, not quite, but my middle name is Thorsten 😉
