Moving day

in Stockholm

Moving stinks. There’s just no way around it. But it is all the worse when you have to move and don’t want to.

It’s been a long story. It all started when our apartment building sold and we were told we had to move. So we started looking for another rental apartment. Quickly, we discovered just how non-existent the rental market is unless you have a big company like Ericsson backing you up. So we changed tactics and decided to buy an apartment. We looked at a few places, but as soon as July 1st came around, there were not so many choices as all of Stockholm had gone on holiday. Now that it’s August, there are lots of apartments to look at and all the viewings are packed. So we are battling with the masses to find our version of a dream home.

But for just now, we have to vacate our apartment. Our furnishings are being packed today and will go into storage. And we will go into temporary housing. It’s not a good feeling, but at least we have somewhere to go.

You poor thing…I can’t believe it has been going on so long! I am applying to do a PhD at Stockholms Universitet next year, but might have to think about other options if it is going to be so difficult to find a place to live.

Best of luck for the remainder of your search…hopefully it won’t be much longer.

Thanks for the sympathy Christain. I think the university will provide you with housing help, right?

I think so…at least to find it…but still…I know Uppsalas Universitet has recently had to work with the local council to put together emergency accommodation for some students because it’s so tough!
