In transition

in Stockholm,Travels

Yesterday was a funny day. The movers were here, packing and organizing all our worldly goods. We were answering questions and trying to stay out of the way. I felt like my life was being uprooted from the core and cried several times. I should not have been so attached to a place, I know. But I was. (I will post photos soon. This apartment was so cool.)

During the course of the day, we signed a contract for a temporary apartment on Kungsholmen and got a parking ticket – 500 SEK for our rental car – for our trouble. Then we felt better in the evening when we looked at an apartment in Vasastan that is a possibility for us. But as we rode our bikes home, we quickly stopped at the grocery to pick up dinner. As Robert took the bike off the rack, the front wheel fell off. Puzzled, we looked around, wondering what had happened. It was only 7 o’clock. The entire axle was missing.

“Could it have just fallen off?” I asked. “No you could not have rode the bike that way,” I answered my own question. Then we discovered the other axle was gone too. How very strange. Of course, nothing was wrong with my 16-year-old bike. It was only Robert’s 1 year old bike that had been vandalized.

What a day. I am looking forward to a much better Friday and weekend.

Wow, your bad luck is impressive!

My relatives in Lund always insist that you *never* buy a new bike for exactly that reason…I’m sure it’s the same in Stockholm! It seems so silly though, that you should have to worry about these things at all…

Uggg…well, they say bad things happen in three’s, right? So now that you’ve gotten those out of the way, nothing else will happen. Good luck with the (continued) apartment hunting!

Hi Antroploga,
It has been impressively bad, hasn’t it? I have laughed about it. You have to! And I have also been dealing with a family health situation and took a quick trip to the US. So I have been feeling all sorts of sympathy for your situation.

Christian, That does sound like good advice. No one wants my old mountain bike!
