Longing for Girl Scout cookies

in The US

thin mint cookies

Thin Mint cookies from the Girl Scouts.

Maybe I’ve been a little bit homesick for the US lately. Or maybe I’m just looking to do some stress eating because it was “raining” in my walk-in closet yesterday thanks to some leaking pipes. Whatever the reason, I’ve been excessively thinking about Girl Scout cookies. In particular, Thin Mints.

As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved Thin Mints. For those of you not lucky enough to know about these cookies, let me fill you in. This cookie is a thin peppermint wafer covered with dark chocolate. For more than 80 years, Girl Scouts have sold cookies as a fundraiser. There are always Thin Mints, Shortbread and Peanut Butter cookies. And then there are alternate cookies which are sold some years.

I sold cookies when I was a Girl Scout. Then, I liked my Thin mints served cold and with a glass of milk. Come to think of it, that’s still a pretty good way to have them. Now if only I knew where to find them in Europe.

I had a friend buy me a coupla boxes of my favorite kinds for me to pick up when I am in the US this summer. 🙂

BUT apparently there are recipes online to help duplicate the various cookies, too.

Ooooh…Girl Scout Cookies. I’m a samoas girl myself, but I’ll definitely eat Thin Mints if presented with them – I like them best from the freezer. If you find anywhere on our side of the Atlantic to get them, shout!

Lucky you antropologa! My mom usually gets me a box or two. So I have hope!

StowmarKate, I also love the samoas! And I will let you know if I find any. Antropologa says there are recipes on-line!

Do you remember being able to buy these at the Kroger supermarket in Hyde Park? I think they were maybe 3 bucks a box?

Maria, I know! I wish there was a Kroger nearby!

Not the same, I presume, but http://www.goteborgskex.se/produktinfo/sota-kex/remi
might serve as an replacement until you get your hands on the real deal?

Thanks Ulrika! I had not seen these before but will definitely give them a try. A substitute might be just what I need!

I just ate some Thin Mints, not more than 5 minutes ago, here at my desk. Wishing you had some, too.

OK, now I am jealous Cindy! You’re killing all of us on the other side of the Atlantic!
