We spent the last two weeks living on an island in Stockholm’s archipelago. Everything moved at a different pace on Yxlan. We were remote – about an hour and a half drive outside of Stockholm. And to get to the island, we had to take a ferry. It only ran on the hour and half hour, so we had to plan our trips to town and to get groceries.

Our freshly picked raspberries.

On Yxlan, it was quiet, especially after school started. As for us, we spent hours sitting on the dock and watching the boats and the water. We rode bikes through the woods, picked raspberries and blueberries and fished. I swam a little, Robert swam about every day. We spent a lot of time looking for moose and never seeing any. But we did see a lot of deer and tons of little tiny toads. But most of all, we relaxed. Even though we were both working, it was at a different pace and always with a view of the water. It was a good set-up.

archipelago deer

And our nearest neighbors were deer. Lots of them.

We left the island on Tuesday and now are back in town. I miss the quiet and beauty already.

And we often got to see the cruise boats on the way to Helsinki from the ferry.
