“I want to take her home.” I emphatically told Robert. I was holding AND feeding a joey – a baby kangaroo – yesterday and I had absolutely fallen in love with her. We were at Robert’s Uncle Peter’s farm and she was a two-month-old red kangaroo who had been orphaned and was being taken care of by Peter. She was gorgeous and oh so sweet. Jillaroo laid on my lap and drank her bottle, using her tiny little front hands to grasp the bottle as she ate. When she was done, she was happy to doze in my lap in the sunshine. And later, she hopped around the yard with me.
Oh my, she was irresistibly cute. But the reality is that the red kangaroo is a large one – males can reach a body length of 3 meters (9.8 feet) and weigh 135 kilograms (300 pounds) and females can be 1.1 meters (3.6 feet) long and weigh 35 kilograms (77 pounds). So she wasn’t likely to fit in my suitcase for long or be too keen about living in the city. But I have to say that I was thrilled to at least hang out with this quintessentially Australian animal.

I would be exactly the same with her. She’s beautiful and adorable!
Oh my…what a great experience! Good for your heart and soul! xoxo
I agree.
Seeing your jacket, I keep forgetting it’s winter there, although I have a friend there who constantly reminds me. That baby is so cute – but look at the feet!
I had never given any thoughts to baby kangaroos before but OMIGOD SO CUTE!
Jodi, Antropologa and Jane, She was so cute, but you are right about the big feet – they stick out no matter what. And yes Jane, it is winter here and quite chilly in the mornings and evenings – I had to borrow the coat!
Oh so cute especially with it’s paws on the bottle….
it’s/its…. I meant, baby brain. Althought the little thing hasn’t popped out yet.
I loved the little paws too, Lou Lou!
