Living in Stockholm, I’ve learned there are some American comfort foods such that I just can’t find here. (Or as in the case of tacos, I can find them but they’re not very good.) Until now, cupcakes were on that list. Popular sweets here are kanelbulle, chokladballor and wienerbrod or a cinammon bun, chocolate balls and Danish pastry, but not typically cupcakes.
My friend Zanne and I went to check out Cupcake Sthlm in Vasastan yesterday, self described as the first cupcake boutique in town. Only open for five weeks, chefs Mikael and Martin are using some recipes from their mothers and grandmothers, together with their own creativity to bake such uniquely Swedish combinations as the Michelle Obama that features a chocolate cupcake, berry frosting and a pinch of lakrits or salty licorice on top. We also tried a Rocky Road and a hallon and vanilla cupcake and found that they were all good. Cupcakes come in two sizes: a mini and a large, although the large would still be considered small by US standards! Find out more at stockholm cupcakes.

I hear you on the taco thing! I will have to give it a try.
Kay,
The tacos are a regular rant of mine–I’ve probably blogged about it way too many times. The cupcakes are good though and I will be having a tasting night there in November.
I read this post and immediately made cupcakes. Chocolate sour cream!
Antropologa: Fantastic! Can you bring me some?
This looks really cool! I’ll wait and go with you on our next visit to Stockholm!
I just heard about this last night – Thanks so much for sharing!
I miss good tacos too!
Sounds delicious. Might be a good place to buy birthday cupcakes for a barnkalas.
Annelie, It would definitely be a great place for that. BTW, I will have a tasting there on J’s birthday if you want to come.
Thanks Marilyn!
