Feeling at home in Australia

in Australia,Travels

This visit, I have acclimated quickly to life in Canberra. Driving on the left side of the road while sitting on the right side of the car has again become second nature. Maybe I have at last become ambidextrous, or at least ambi-drive-dextrous. I am even walking on the left side of the footpath – sidewalk – without thinking about it.

I was able to give directions today when a cyclist asked for them. I felt kinda proud about that.

The songs of the magpies, the squawks of cockatoos, parrots, rosellas and galahs and even the distinctive laugh of the kookaburra has become familiar again. The fragrant smell of eucalyptus is everywhere and comforting. Even though I have never lived in Australia, I have visited many times and also was married here. It feels like my adopted homeland or at least the place I dream to live someday.

My only complaint is about how annoyingly itchy the the ping pong ball size mosquito bites I have accumulated are.
