My memories of Easter in the US mostly include candy – chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and marshmallow peeps – and of course, dyed hard-boiled eggs. Sweden has its own particular way of celebrating the Easter holiday. Kids here like to dress up like witches and go begging for treats, sort of like how we in the US do for Halloween.
And you have to have Easter feathers: feathers tied onto branches that you form into a bouquet. You can find the feather branches at most any flower stall. (Read a previous post I did on them at Easter traditions. )
Much like Christmas, there are Easter drinks, including Påskmust. Must is sort of like a sweeter tasting version of root beer and is typically served up at Christmas (called Julmust or Christmas must then) but also at Easter (Påsk). There’s also special Easter beer in the stores right now, just like there is at Christmas. You have to have the right drinks to go with a holiday, after all!
