Given that I showed some examples of typical Stockholm holiday lights, I thought I should share some from here. While there are none of the usual see it from space light displays that are so typical of suburban American homes around me, there are still plenty of entertaining options. (Mostly, lights in my parent’s suburban neighborhood tend to be tasteful, small and white and strewn across trees and shrubs in the front yard.)
But there are exceptions. Blow up lawn ornaments have grown popular over the last several years and there are several in the neighborhood. For some reason, they fascinate me. (Don’t misread me here, however – I absolutely do not want to own one of these decorations.) Mostly, I’m intrigued by them as most of the lawns that feature the blow-up decorations tend to have more than one item and there are always odd combinations. Instead of putting a snowman next to a Santa, for instance, you tend to see more jarring – and dare I say it – unrealistic pairings of that snowman next to a giant snow globe with a manger scene inside of it. Where else in the world would you find that kind of combination? It’s the juxtaposition gets me every time.

I think a gnome would look better!
