My local: Haps Irish Pub

in Cincinnati: my hometown

Haps

Haps Irish Pub, with Robert, Ted and Mike posing in front.

I seem to have a need for a local pub, a place where the bartenders recognize me and where I can just drop in for a quick drink and not feel like I have to stay if I don’t have the time. In Stockholm, for years it was the Southside in Södermalm. Now that we’ve moved, we have a plethora of choices just minutes from our door, but we have yet to decide which place is our local. We have to work on that.

Back in Cincinnati, I felt like I was truly home when I went to my old local, Haps. Located in Hyde Park, Haps was just around the corner from my old house. Thus it was easy to get to. But more than that, Haps is a classic Irish pub with friendly bartenders that know your name, good beer on tap and a fun selection of music in the jukebox. It’s a great combo to come home to.

It’s fun to see you in the old hood. As you know, I too have fond memories of Haps Irish Pub!

Maria,
Our parallel universe strikes again! Too bad we did not know each other then…

Ohhhh, Sand! Remember that Haps was where my goodbye party was before moving to California? And remember that we were on the local news (!!!) there one St. Patrick’s Day? You have to love a bar within walking distance.

Ah, good memories Lisa! I had forgotten about the St Paddy’s Day–how fun!

No way!!! I used to hang with one of the local rugby clubs that frequented Haps. I lived in and played rugby in Dayton for 7 years and hung out with rugby buddies in Cincinnati a lot.

Small world 🙂

Lola, It is a small world! I had no idea you lived in Dayton. You were probably there when I was – I lived just around the corner from Haps for many years. Guess we were meant to meet at the Hilton Slussen!
