The Christmas tree on Skeppsbron in Gamla Stan.

We had a full-on weekend of Christmas. I am such a kid in terms of all the traditions surrounding Christmas and luckily Robert is happy to come along and laugh with me. Saturday, we went to the international market at Sergels Torg and the jul or holiday market at Kungsträgården to watch the ice skating. It started snowing then, making the evening just about perfect for me. And then we walked on to the big Christmas tree at Gamla Stan, stopping for a drink along the way in a cozy old town pub. Our final stop was at the Indigo, a cool bar on Götgatan, where we watched the fat flakes of snow fall gently outside our window.

Then yesterday, we went to Skansen for the Lucia concert. We stopped first at the very traditional julmarknad or Christmas market where all sorts of holiday treats and handicrafts were being sold. The vendors all dress in traditional clothing, which adds a nice touch. And then we stopped to watch  the traditional singing and dancing around the Christmas tree there before going to hear the Lucia concert.

In many ways, I love the buildup to Christmas more than the holiday itself. There is such an anticipation of what is to come.
