Getting the swine flu vaccine

In anticipation of travels to the US, Robert and I got the swine flu vaccine on Saturday. Given that we live in a social democracy, the process was free and relatively painless. Except for the fact that it left my arm sore and bruised and that yesterday I felt lethargic and a bit achey. Last night, I was at a Lucia party where one guy kept emphasizing his points with friendly punches on my arm, just where it hurt. I kept contorting my arm and body to get away from him, but he somehow kept hitting the bruise right on the spot. It was both annoying and funny all at once and I found myself wanting to hit back except for the fact that he was about 75. So I restrained myself.

It was interesting when we went to China. We had to fill out and sign forms that asked questions about our general health. And then as we were going through passport control, body heat sensors checked temperatures. And later at hotels, there were also sensors at the check-in desk.

Rich and I just had our shots this evening. The doctor that lives upstairs left a note on our elevator to call him if anyone would like to have a swine flu shot. So we called and only walked up two flights of stairs to get our shots. He is running a mini clinic in his flat.

How is that for a doctor house call? Plus it was free. Or maybe it was we paid our taxes!!
