Since the weekend, I’ve been on a creative high. As I mentioned in a previous post about the casting of the show, I was part of a performance for the Stockholm Literature festival at the Moderna Museet or Museum of Modern Art. The show was called Wild Minds and we did six performances, four of which had to have more chairs added.
I’ve never acted before, so this was definitely taking a big step out of my comfort zone. But being in Wild Minds was one of the most fun and interesting things I’ve done in a long time.
Director Marcus Lindeen interviewed four people in the US who are compulsive daydreamers. All four prefer the excitement of living in fictional worlds of their own creation and have sought help to overcome their addiction. From interviews with these “maladaptive daydreamers,” Marcus crafted the show.
Wild Minds was an intense, 35-minute show where I and my three fellow daydreamers describe our fantasies to the audience, who sits with us in a therapy-style circle.
As for me, I portrayed a woman named Debora who has an ongoing daydream about Kevin, a 35-year-old gang member, drug dealer and all-around bad man. While Debora does not want to be Kevin, she wants to have him in her life in some way because he makes it seem more exciting. She has tried to “kill” Kevin several times, but she can’t bring herself to do so because she is too emotionally attached to him–he is a part of her for more than 40 years.

You made me wonder if I daydream too much.
