Anniversary memories

in Australia,Stockholm,Travels

Eight years ago, Robert and I were married in the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. The evening was warm but not hot and perfect for being outside. During the ceremony, a crocodile and a big lizard were in the pond just in front of  us and several kangaroos and wallabies hung out on the lawn behind us. Parrots of all sorts were in the trees. The terrace of Hudsons in the Gardens was the setting for the reception and our dinner was delicious. It was such a fantastic night and it makes me happy to just think about it.

Last year, Robert and I went to the gardens for a glass of wine and to celebrate. Which then brings me to this year. It is snowing and cold here. We will go out for dinner later at Gondolen, a Swedish restaurant with a beautiful view over the Baltic. It was the first place we ate at when we first visited Stockholm and I know we will again have a lovely evening.

But what I don’t understand is how falling for a charming Aussie accent has landed this American in Stockholm.

Happy Anniversary! I remember seeing beautiful photos of your wedding in Oz; but, have more vivid memories of your wedding at your parents’ house, down by the lake. The sun was setting, we waited on the absent-minded but warm-hearted Methodist minister from Clifton (can’t remember his name), Will played great tunes, and friends and family clustered around to witness you and Robert exchanging vows again. I recall how Kevin at times teared up as he spoke about you and Robert. He captured my heart. What a joyful time, filled with lots of love.

Thanks Kez. Wedding number two was also a great time and filled with many a good story, including the minister arriving so late that everyone was drinking before and during the ceremony!

Hi Kylie, I can’t begin to say how much I am looking forward to being in warm weather and seeing you guys. My frozen fingers on the keyboard are longing for summer!

Well, I don’t know how marrying an Aussie landed you in Stockholm, but I’m very glad it did! Congrats to you and Robert Sandra…glad you had a fun celebration!

Thanks Jodi. It really doesn’t make sense that I should live in this cold, dark land, does it?
