American food choices

Saturday I was at the Cincinnati Museum Center. It was my niece Sophie’s 9th birthday and we spent the afternoon exploring the Egyptian mummy exhibit and the cave in the natural history center. But in stopping for lunch, I perused the menu and found that there was not one healthy option – just hamburgers, french fries, fried chicken and all sorts of other fried and fatty foods.

I was surprised. The museum was packed with families with kids. And the menu made me feel ill just looking at it. I wanted a sandwich, maybe a piece of fruit and yogurt. I could have found any of these items at any small cafe in Stockholm. But real  food was not an option at the center. My immediate thought was wow, there’s no wonder there is so much obesity in the US. No one has a chance.

Luckily, there was also a snack kiosk and it had one chicken wrap left that was decently healthy, if just a bit large. Robert and I split it and it was more than enough for both of us to share. The day left me with some interesting food for thought.

I would have eaten the cheeseburger and fries. Due to my bad holiday choices I will not only be spinning but need to hit the treadmill.

Hurry Back.
