Winter survival tactics for living in the north

Philips light

My Philips Energy Light sending out its powerful beams.

Every year, it hits me. We set the clocks back one hour, then I spend the next weeks – actually months – feeling shocked by how dark it is in the afternoon. Right now, the sun is setting at  3.50 thanks to daylight savings time ending last weekend.

As the darkness rolls in, my eyes remain sleepy and I keep rubbing them in the vain hope that I’ll wake up. It’s harsh, but it’s only going to get worse during the next few months. So I’ve been taking vitamin D and I’ve pulled out my Philips energy light. I like to think both help me cope. Studies seem to suggest they do and I’ll try anything. But I know that all I really can do is hibernate and dream of those gloriously long and light-filled June and July days.
