What I miss about home

in Cincinnati: my hometown,Living in Europe

The other day, a friend was complaining about how hot it was – 95 degrees F and humid – in Cincinnati. And as much as I know that if I was there I would probably be whining and wilting in the heat and then grumpy about how chilly the air conditioning was inside, I could go for that right now. I miss the steaming hot summers of my childhood in Cincinnati. Don’t get me wrong, Scandinavian summers can be lovely, but they tend to be moderate – somewhere in the ’70s is a typical temp. To me, that’s not quite summer weather, but rather more like spring. I like it hot. I long for it. I miss the heat and the big booming thunderstorms with lightening.

And while I’m getting all nostalgic, I’ll add that I miss fireflies and the sound of cicadas. The Fourth of July fireworks. And freshly picked corn on the cob. There’s no corn here as tasty as that good old midwestern stuff. Ah, summer!

I know what you mean. I felt like that last summer. And I’m glad we got to do super-hot summer stuff in June when we were in the US, and see fireflies and hear thunderstorms etc. But since I am 8 months pregnant, the Swedish summer temps are just perfect for me this time around. 🙂

Thanks Antropologa. Good to hear from you! I can only imagine how hard it would to be 8 months pregnant in that hot and steamy stuff.

Sophie and I went to King’s Island last Monday and it was the 5th hottest “feels like” temperature in Cincinnati history with a heat index of 114F. Today will mark our 15th day over 90F with a forecast with nothing less than that. Stockholm (Uto specifically) sounds pretty good to me

Doug, OK, I’ll grant you that is WAY beyond hot. But when it’s like it is here today – 19 degrees C (66 F) and rainy and you’re wearing a polar fleece – you have to admit that it’s not optimal summer weather either!
