As I was talking with my cousin Kezia in New York City last night, I realized it was 9 pm. And it was dark. Maybe it doesn’t sound like much to you, but I have to tell you that it felt like I had been punched in the stomach. The transition back to shorter days happens quickly in this part of the world. I know that the days are getting shorter, but I always seem to notice the lack of light and the time all at once and it takes me by surprise. Oh, the days are still long enough – 15 hours – but it’s still hard to accept the dark at 9.
At least it was beautiful yesterday and I got to go out on a boat with friends. But signs of autumn were everywhere.

enjoy the late evenings for now 🙂 i know we don’t live there anymore but i think the winters are beautiful!
It gets dark over here by 9pm now too – and somehow it always comes as a shock. The plus side is, though, that I am not awaken at 3am by the sun and the local cockerels.
