Yesterday, I took the train from Stockholm to Lund. Robert was already there for a conference, so I decided to join him.
Traveling on a train feels like such a luxury. No security lines. You can carry on what you want. My suitcase stays right with me. Plenty of space, even in second class. Plus the ticket was cheap—1000 SEK ($150 US) round trip, with one way in first class.
As soon as we left Stockholm, the landscape turned rural. Rolling green pastures, forests of birch and pine, deep navy blue lakes. Sheep, cows and horses every now and then, as well as the ubiquitous red houses. It was a bright and sunny day, with that sharp, low light that tells you it is autumn and illuminates the leaves on the birch trees to a brilliant gold. As we got further south, I saw more farm land.
I live such an insulated city life in so many ways, seldom heading out of the center and seeing the larger landscape. Broadening my horizons on the train and seeing the landscape felt great.

I can relate, Sandy. I always enjoy a trip out of the city, whether by car, train or bus. It definitely helps my perspective, on so many levels.
It’s definitely good to change your perspective, Kezia!
