To the land down under

in Adelaide,Australia,Living in Sweden,Travels

Don’t hate me. I’ve left winter and Stockholm behind. After 35 hours of traveling, I have landed in Australia. I have some jet lag, but oh my, the weather and view here more than makes up for it.

Don’t worry. I’ll be back home to Stockholm. But for now, I am happy to be in my other adopted homeland of Oz. It’s good to have Aussie relatives to visit. Especially during winter in the northern hemisphere.

When I left Stockholm, it was -5 C. Now I am in Adelaide. It’s 35 C. So very, very hot. And it’s sunny. And our hotel is right on the beach. I am looking at the beach now from my room. I can hear the surf and smell the water. I took a long walk on the beach this morning. I was barefoot and in shorts–no winter coat and no boots at long last. The juxtaposition is wonderful.

I did feel a bit like a wimp to leave winter behind. But not too much of one. The weather here is too good to feel bad. Although I do feel a bit bad for my friends who are not vacationing in the Southern hemisphere right now. I’ll try not to rub in my location too much.

I am very pleased to tell you that even though it was still on the cold side, the sun was out and shining all day today! What a difference the sun makes for the spirit! It’s now 3:45 in the afternoon and I can see the beginnings of a beautiful sunset in the making from my lofty office at Arlanda Airport. All that is missing is the feel of the sand between my bare toes…
