prado

Robert and our Prado after crossing the flooded creek.

This time of year in the north is the wet or monsoon season. That means that every day, we are getting some kind of rain ranging from a typical Midwestern US thunderstorm to what the locals call a knock ‘em down rain.

Crossing the flooded road.

The tumultuous weather makes for some spectacularly beautiful skies. But it also makes for a lot of flooded and closed roads. Luckily, we have a 4-wheel drive vehicle that gets us into places that a regular car can not. (And it doesn’t hurt that Robert and Kevin know how to handle driving in these conditions.) So yesterday, we were able to ford the flooded-over-the-road Hayes Creek in the Douglas and Daly River region.

I wonder what adventure lies in store for us tomorrow?

Flood depth gauges are on all low-lying roads.

roads closed

Closed road signs are everywhere we go. Notice the storm clouds behind the sign.
