After living without a bath tub or washing machine for almost six years, I have both in my new temporary apartment. I’m amused to say that it feels like such a luxury to once again have these things that were just everyday stuff in my life in the US. The majority of Stockholm apartments do not have bath tubs, but showers instead. While I prefer having a shower most mornings, I really missed having a bath after a tough workout or hard day.
To add to that happiness, we also have a washing machine in the apartment. How pathetic is it that I am excited by that? But I am thrilled to not have to sign up for the communal laundry in the building and to just do laundry when I want or need to. Like most good things, my enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that there is no dryer. But I can deal with that.
However, these two extras don’t quite make up for the fact that both my home and office are now in someone else’s home and with someone else’s stuff around me. It’s disorienting. Plus I have to wait until August 25th to get internet access. And for someone who works at home, that is a long time.

Oh, bath time! I used to take baths almost 6 days a week in the U.S. so I feel your happiness. I knew about the showers in advance and took advantage of bubble baths those last weeks before moving to Stockholm.
I was so excited when we finally got our bathtub here. Nice way to warm up, for one thing.
No internet access at home!
It is amazing how good a bubble bath can make you feel!
