My friend Peggy, who lives here in Stockholm, just posted this on Facebook: “OK, here’s a difference between Sweden and the US. I just saw a TV ad for several different models of vibrator that you can buy at a local pharmacy.”

I laughed out loud. Because while I’ve seen the ad,  I didn’t think anything of it. It took Peggy to remind that you would never see this ad in the US. So I guess you could say that this is yet another example of ways I’ve been Swede-ified.

When I first moved here, Lindex – a chain that makes clothing and lingerie – would regularly run an ad campaign showing their bras with the caption, “We love boobs.” While I thought the ad was hilarious, I could not believe that Lindex could get away with having this on billboards and subway posters all over the city. These days,  I just think: typical Sweden.
