Stockholm’s weather is a bit like the old saying: when she was good, she was very good. When she was bad, she was horrid. Happily for me, the weather has been tending toward the very good over the last week. And when the weather is like this, the best place to be is on the water, as you can see by the feet hanging out of the boat at left. (These are a few more shots from our kayaking trip yesterday.)
I grew up in a fishing family and every year we would take our family vacations in Michigan. Of course, we would fish and boat, but also just relax and enjoy time together. So my association of being happy while on the water is a longstanding one. That love of being on the water is one of the many reasons I enjoy living in Stockholm. I wake up and look out first thing in the morning to Lake Mälaren and it’s also the last thing I look at when I go to bed at night. I often think I would love to live on a boat, if only for a while. So whenever I see the houseboats at Pampas Marina (in the photo below), I have to stop and look at them, visualizing what my life would be like if I lived in one of these cool homes.
