Spanish wines and gourmet food. What’s not to like about that on a Monday evening? Last night, I was in the rather unusual situation of being at a winemaker dinner where Spanish was spoken and then translated into Swedish. In writing notes, I today realized that I used a combination of English, Spanish and Swedish.

I was with my friend Pingis at a wine tasting at Primewinebar in Östermalmstorg where we sampled reds from Spanish winery Bodegas Roda. Winemaker Agustín Santolaya led us through the tasting of his wines which come from the Rioja in Haro’s Barrio de la Estacion district where they grow Tempranillo and Grenache grapes. We tasted six reds, including a Roda Reserva 2006 Doca Rioja and a Cirsion 2007 Doca Rioja that were full bodied and tasty.

All this was accompanied by a fantastic multi-course meal from Prinewarbar: beef carpaccio with fresh porcini mushrooms, white alba truffle and parmesan, next was a risotto with carmelized red onion and duck liver and this was followed by a wild duck breast with potato gnocchi, spinach and pancetta. A selection of Italian and Spanish cheeses ended the meal.

Are you jealous now? You should be. My mouth is watering just thinking about this amazing combination of wine and food. What a way to start the week. Check out the restaurant at primewinebar and the winemaker at Roda.

Am absolutely jealous! But laughing a little to myself as well…I have to ask whether the wine tasting had already started when you were taking notes in English, Spanish, and Swedish without even realising? 😛

Oh, you are very astute in your thinking Christian! I had already sampled several wines and I did not notice the mingling of three languages until the next day!

Maria,
It would have been great to have you there with me!
