Running the snow gauntlet

Robert showing just how deep the snow is, standing just by the Baltic and looking toward Strandvägen.

As I walked up to Systembolaget, a worker was continually blowing on a whistle while up on the roof above, two more workers were creating a blizzard by knocking copious amounts of snow down. With another short burst on the whistle, he got the workers to stop so that I could walk into the store. Just as I did so, a softball sized load of snow fell on my shoulder.

It’s crazy out there today. The temperatures were just below freezing for the first time in who knows for how long and the sun was out, so that meant that some of the months’ worth of snow accumulation decided it was time to slide off the roofs, both on its own and with assistance. Everywhere I went, workers were on roofs knocking the snow off and new falling ice and snow warning signs had cropped up as well. I walked in the street wherever I could, but even so I was almost hit a ridiculous number of times. It felt like I was running the snow gauntlet, narrowly averting danger with every step.
