One of the nicest things about being in a very small town for a few days is that I’m recognizing the locals. There’s the group of women who meet every morning on the sunny side of the island for a swim and a chat. Then there’s the stooped old man who walks around town with a string of garlic and a big round of local cheese wrapped in wax, with more in his backpack, to sell. And then there’s the man at the market who greets me every day and goes into what I think is some long explanation of the fruit I should buy, but of course I don’t know for sure as all I can manage in Croatian is a simple dobar danor hello and dovidenja or goodbye.

The green fruits are greengages, a type of small plum, very sweet and juicy and delicious. Not such a ‘wine’ taste to them.
Thanks for letting me know Jane. I will have to try some!
