Wow. Barack Obama was just awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
The Nobel committee recognized Obama’s efforts to solve complex global problems including working toward a world free of nuclear weapons.”Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said. “Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the United States is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.”
How cool is that?
Watching the 2004 US presidential election results in the early morning hours at a huge party here in Stockholm, I saw first-hand what his victory did to inspire the world. I was proud that I voted for him then and am proud now as well. I think I need to dig out my campaign button and wear it again.
