On being home again

in Cincinnati: my hometown,Travels

It’s amazing how quickly you can feel like a child again when you stay at your parent’s house for a while. Even though I am fully capable of taking care of myself, my Mom stillĀ  wants to do my laundry, my Dad still wants to wash the car I am driving. Some things just don’t change. Like a teenager, I even crashed my Dad’s car. Well, not really. But as I was pulling my Dad’s immaculate and big American-sized car into the garage one snowy day, I wedged the car against the garage door. I felt like I was 16. Thankfully, Robert and my Dad unwedged the car without a dent, leaving just a paint smudge behind.

Taking the teenage mentality just a bit further, I even had a party at my parent’s house. Unlike when I was 16, I actually asked my parents if I could have a party and invited them to come. No one tossed beer bottles into the backyard and my parents went to bed early. Somehow, I am pretty sure that they did not sleep the night of my 16th birthday party in the basement.

AND, we were really happy to have you and Robert here for the holidays.

AND, I got all of the paint off of the fender.

AND, your blog is a great way for us to know what you are doing.

That’s what parents and home is for — a little regression is OK! I know your parents must have loved having you home and I know our mutual friends enjoyed seeing them at the party. BTW, did anyone really sleep at your 16th? I don’t remember. All I can recall is Little Kings and Mike Carr. You and your friends corrupted me! I was 14, just 3 years older than Dom. That is absolutely frightening…

I just logged on to your web site and I am enjoying beginning to expore it. My daughters would agree with your reflections on staying at their parents’ home. However, I am experiencing the reverse of that this weekend. I am visiting my daughters in New York and they are taking care of me. “Okay, Mom, we will wait with you until your subway comes.”

It was great to see you and Robert!

Thanks for reading Maureen. My parents would probably say the same thing when they visit me. Enjoy your visit!

Hi Sandra,
Your blog was recommended to me by a mutual friend, Kat (artists, lives in Lucca, Italy) as one that was well put together. I agree with her. Beautiful blog! I will try to emulate it.
And incidentally, I’m from Lexington, just up the pike, as we say, from Cinci. I’m living in Naples, Italy, now so it was nice to catch up on that area.
Thanks!
Todd

Thanks for the kind words Todd. I will give your blog a look. A talented designer friend by the name of Lisa Hazen did the design for me. I can recommend her highly if you want to splash out on a new look.
