It’s funny how your personal viewpoint changes your perspective. Yesterday I had two great comments on some recent blog posts about Stockholm’s winter. In commenting on Alive and Kicking, Lotta, a Stockholmer who now lives in Sydney, Australia said: “It’s days like you’ve just experienced Sandra that made Stockholm the most beautiful city in the world to me. That and the first snowfall. I’d walk anywhere in the first snowfall.”

And Antropologa from the US commented on my Snow Danger blog: “You are really freaking me out about our move to Sweden from our island home in South Carolina.”

I love both comments because they seem to perfectly sum up my thoughts about living in Stockholm. On the up side, I do often think that Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, especially on a sunny day. And during the long days of summer, this place is amazing. On the other hand, Stockholm just about makes me go crazy during the short and dark days of winter. It freaks me out, but it is still beautiful. Even though the day shown in the photo here was incredibly gray, the snow made it absolutely gorgeous. That is not to say that I don’t get down about the gray, I do.

I feel lucky to live here. But as anyone who knows me knows, I think Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s funny how viewpoint works, isn’t it?
