There are so many special food and drink options for the holidays in Sweden. Every year that I am here, I seem to discover something new. This year, it is Mumma. This sweet beer type beverage is typically made with a combination of porter or another dark beer, light beer, port wine and something sweet such as julmust, and then spiced up with cardamon.

My talented foodie friends Debora and Stig made their own Mumma using ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, orange peel and a double bock beer base. They then bottled it and created their own special labels. And luckily for me, they share. I can’t wait to try it.

Speaking of beer, of course there are special holiday brews you can buy. At left are the options offered up by Swedish brewers Spendrups and Pripps.

I went to a screening last week of a Stieg Larsson film which was good, despite the more adult form of Swedish than I’m used to.

Accompanying the film was a bottle of Julmust. An acquired taste, I’m sure.

Too funny James. It is definitely an acquired taste. Many of my friends here think julmust tastes like cough syrup.
