Making the most of a holiday

Today is Kristi himmelsfärds dag or the Ascension Day in Sweden and what that means is that today is a röd dag (red day) or a day off work. One of the many things I have grown to love about Sweden is how well the Swedes know how to milk  a holiday for all it’s worth. For instance, for this one day holiday, most people had a half day off Wednesday as well and then will take Friday off as a klämdag or squeeze day to create a long weekend. I know way too many Americans  who would not only skip taking the extra holidays, they would also not take the actual holiday itself off.

By the way, Ascension Day is yet another one of the religious holidays in rather non-religious Sweden. It is the 4oth day after Easter Sunday.
