From the moment we stepped on the Aer Lingus plane on Friday, we knew we were going to have a good time. The flight attendants were friendly and helpful and it felt like every person on the packed flight was poised for fun in Dublin.
I was there with two girlfriends from Stockholm and met up with other friends there too. The weather was what you might expect: changeable and often rainy. But we also had brilliant sunshine on both Friday and Sunday. It was Saturday and Monday that were gray and rainy.
I’ve got lots of good stories and photos to share. But for now: my first impressions of Dublin were good. I liked the general friendliness of the locals and how often we were approached for a chat whether on the street or in a pub. It was so easy to walk this city. I admired the Georgian architecture, the pubs with big baskets of flowers. The buskers on Grafton street were amazingly good. I liked the many, many tasty meals we had. Oh, and of course, there was the Guinness and the Jameson.
And before you think I only saw Dublin through rose-clored glasses, well yes, I could not help but notice the cold and gray “slant” rain, the many closed businesses, the empty offices for rent and all the drunks on the street. There was all that too. But overall, this city was alive and kicking and a lot of fun.
