I’ve never lived somewhere that is a tourist destination, so I am fascinated by the influx of sightseers that jam the city streets and boats during the summer in particular. Last week, we walked through Gamla Stan or the old town on the way home and found throngs of tourists from all over the world. Instead of fighting them, we decided to join them and ate dinner at one of the Italian restaurants on Västerlånggatan – one of the busiest tourist streets. It was jam-packed and crazy and felt a bit like playing tourist in our town.

Oh, where did you eat? One of our favorite Italian restaurants is on Västerlånggatan – Paganini’s. If it wasn’t that one, I can highly recommend it!
It’s funny, we moved here FROM a big tourist destination, and it’s weird for me that there aren’t tourists in our little town. 🙂 I had the hardest time finding a Swedishy T-shirt and Dala horse for my dad as a gift!
Hi Sharon,
It was indeed Paganini’s that we went to and it was delicious. It’s funny, we had avoided the place for years as it seemed too touristy!
Antropologa,
I have guessed as to where you used to live and I would have had a hard time leaving there as well! As for the souvenirs you mention, they are to be had on every street corner in Stockholm. Come and visit and we will have fika.
Ha Ha I thought the Tees and the Dala horses were just for display, is anyone really buying those ??? 🙂
Roger: Of course people are buying them. Like all souvenirs in all countries. And when it comes to dala horses, a lot of swedish people have them too, at least a lot of my friends here in Stockholm, since so many in Stockholm have relatives from Dalarna. They probably got them in Dalarna and not on Drottninggatan, but the horses are the same.
