It’s dangerous out there

The warning signs are everywhere

The warning signs for ice and snow falling from rooftops have cropped up all over town.

I have not fallen yet this year, but I am sort of expecting I will soon. Every time I go out, I walk a few steps, slide, walk a few more steps and then slide again. The snow is treacherous just now as there is a sandy/snowy combination on top of the sidewalks that hides the slippery ice lurking underneath. Even my tire tread snow boots are no help in this stuff. As I was heading around the corner to the tunnelbana (subway) this morning, I did a major slide but righted myself just in time before going down.

The signs warning you to watch for snow and ice falling from roofs are everywhere just now. It leaves you in the sticky situation of not knowing whether you need to be looking up to make sure no icicle is hurtling down to stab you to an untimely death or if you instead need to look down to watch for the icy patches. My strategy for now is to walk as far away from the buildings as I can and then just concentrate on the sidewalk.

A teenager actually got killed by a falling icicle on Drottninggatan a few years ago, so yes, stay clear of those buildings!!
