Island getaway

Grönholmen sunset

Sunset last night from our dining deck.

On Friday, we traveled with some friends to an island on the Swedish archipelago for a week-long getaway. We took the Sjögull ferry from Stockholm and then the house owner picked us up at the jetty at Wettersö to take us to our island. That’s right, we are on our very own island. No joking. We feel like kings. And Grönholmen is amazing. It’s a small heart-shaped island, maybe 100 by 50 meters. Though small, there’s space to move around, some beautiful rocks and trees.

fog

On Friday night, a blanket of fog moved in.

The house itself is perfect, but the outside areas are truly outstanding. There’s one dining area on the dock by the main house, then another dining spot on the deck just above it outside the main house. There’s another dining area by the sauna house and a sunning area with adirondack chairs on the rocks above it. And then there is yet another sunning area on the other side of the island. We are spoiled for choice. And we’re also having the time of our lives, relaxing, swimming, sunning and just hanging out.
