Long days of Stockholm light

The view over lake Mälaren in Stockholm.

In the morning, the waters of Lake Mälaren have been perfectly still and the light – which has been waking me around 5 am – has been spectacular. Notice that there are still icebergs floating in the foreground.

In checking the Stockholm weather for today, I noticed the sunrise and sunset times. According to SMHI, the Swedish weather service, the sunrise time for today is 5:57 and that is 20 minutes earlier than last week. The sunset time is 19:44 and that is 17 minutes later than last week.

It’s amazing how quickly we change from mostly dark to mostly light in this part of the world. Friends in other parts of the world always want to know what it’s like to live through these extremes. Depending on the season, I have two answers. In winter, it’s depressing as hell and I want out. In summer, it’s incredible and there’s nowhere I would rather be. It’s a crazy dichotomy.

Sounds like you are describing a bit of the “yin and yang” of where you are, Sandy : )

Kezia,
That is so true! I often worry what living with these extremes does to me.
