Fleeting Autumn

Humlegården on Saturday.

The sky was gray so the autumn leaves stood out brightly.

Autumn feels like it moves in and out so quickly. Just as I was admiring the brilliant orange color of the maple outside my office window yesterday, the leaves are completely gone from the top of the tree today. The light is also fleeting. One minute, it is glowing so spectacularly golden that it almost blinds you, then the next, the sun has set.

As I was walking to lunch yesterday, leaves covered the sidewalk and it smelled like autumn. I want that smell to linger just a while longer. And I was wondering: does autumn feel so short because we know that winter is just around the corner?

There are still some green leaves on the trees in Humlegården.
