Findlay Market: Cincinnati’s food hall

in Cincinnati: my hometown

Findlay Market

Findlay Market on a gray Tuesday afternoon was quiet.

Inside the market, Findlay truly is a food HALL.

On our Over-the-Rhine tour on Tuesday, Bryn and I also stopped by Findlay Market. I haven’t been to the market since I moved away from Cincinnati in 2004 and it was good to see that many of my old favorite stalls and stores were still around, including Madisons, Heist and Silverglades. But even better, there were many good looking new places, including Skirtz & Johnston bakery. We ate some irresistibly good oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and I bought some chocolate chip scones to bring home. (They were amazing, by the way.)

As for the details, Findlay Market was built in 1852 and is the oldest continuously operating market in Ohio. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places. There are both inside and outside stands and shops – obviously there are more outside in the summer – and you can find everything from homemade breads, pastries and sausages to spices, teas, Christmas trees and flowers at the market.

I was wanting some of this Christmas cheddar.

Another inside shot. By the way, a chitterling is the small intestine of a pig. Not for me...
