Exploring Stockholm’s neighborhoods

in Stockholm

One of the best side benefits to looking for an apartment has been exploring the neighborhoods. After you’ve lived somewhere for a while, I think you get stuck in the rut of going to some of the same old places. Searching for a flat, we’ve made all sorts of fun discoveries for new places to eat, drink and relax. Because while we want to stay in the inner city, we’ve been exploring different parts of town and different islands.

We love living on our quiet little street in Södermalm, but think it could also be fun to live in Vasastan, Kungsholmen or Östermalm as well. On Monday night, we found a great outdoor cafe on Kungsholmen that we want to go to again. Last night, we looked at a place in Vasastan and looked around there. But then – don’t laugh – we came back a bit closer to home and had dinner outside in Mariatorget. In our defense, we looked at an apartment there as well…

I used to live on Sodermalm close to where you live and really love/d it there. Especially the proximity to Langholmen and Cafe Dello Sport! For Kungsholmen, if you’re in that hood again two very nice coffee shops at Rorstrandsgatan you should check out is Cafe Levinsky (http://www.pastan.nu/levinskys-cafe-1.13518) and Mellqvist Kaffe (http://www.pastan.nu/ataute/mellqvist-kaffebar-1.20611). The first has great breakfasts and lunches and a great outdoor patio. The latter is simply on my top-5 list of favorite coffee shot in the world – incl the many I’ve been spending many hours at in New York, Paris, London, Sydney, San Francisco etc. Superb coffee. Great sandwiches and kardemummabullar and, this is important, excellent people watching, vibe and smooth jazz in the background.
