Eating Thai in Stockholm

koh phangen

Koh Phangan

For Robert’s birthday last night, we went to dinner at Koh Phangan. We were in the mood for Thai and had not been there in years. The place is fun and not so typical of Stockholm restaurants. The decor is far from Scandinavian cool and can best be described as island kitsch – there are bamboo walls, colored lights, posters of Bob Marley, even a small “creek” with goldfish swimming in it and the sound of crickets chirping. You are meant to feel like you have escaped to someplace tropical and this feeling is enhanced by periodic “thunderstorms” complete with flickering lights and thunder.

The food is very good, very Thai and surprisingly hot. We first went to Koh Phangan after we had been living here for about 8 months or so – long enough to know that Swedes don’t do spicy food. So we ordered the hot dishes and were left sweating. The place tends to be crowded, so expect to wait a while for a table, especially on the weekends. Find out more about the restaurant at Koh Phangan.
